MISSION:M4 Project Update
It’s been two years since we started our ambitious project to place the In-Bore System into six military hospitals with the largest children’s units. With two of the six already placed, we have learned a lot. Most importantly, we learned that the system is making such difference for the kids that it should be available to patients in all military hospitals that preform MRI’s…not just for the kids but specifically for our soldiers with PTSS and brain injuries.
With that realization and a lot of research, I identified the person who might help make this happen, Assistant Secretary of Health Affairs for the Military. I sought the help, once again, of Senator Roberts, Mission:M4’s guardian angel. A meeting was set up in the Senator’s office to discuss the project with Secretary McCaffrey which led to a subsequent meeting at the Department of Defense that could determine the feasibility of the program being brought under the auspicious of the DOD. I am thrilled and encouraged that the program has passed several stages of research. While it has not been approved, I am very encouraged about about the progress to date to make this more than just a twinkle in our eyes.
With optimism as my motivator, Mission:M4 is once again, directing efforts to the children at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Discussions with staff and families served by WRNMMC, our next project was clearly identified…a family lounge dedicated to the children’s unit. A location for the lounge is being identified. Plans are underway to make this a very special environment for families to relax, meditate or do work if necessary, while they wait to see their children/family member. Computers, printers, a large television with Netflix and music available as well as comfortable seating will make a big difference for the families when they are hoping to receive some good news. The atmosphere will be one of happiness with special paintings on the walls that will keep smiles on family faces.
Of course we will need funds for this project. We are on our way and hope that with your help we can raise the remainder of the money needed to see this project through, quickly. Please help with your donations or by building a team to raise money for an item we will need. Stay tuned as lists are gathered. In the meantime, please call me with any questions or ideas you may have to help us reach our goal.
