MISSION:M4
We HAVE made a difference for the
Critically Ill Children of the Military
It’s hard to believe that for the first time in over 20 years I won’t be having my ice cream party. However, even without ice cream, our military families continue to march on, sacrificing so much on our behalf. Because of your support, Mission:M4 continues to make a major difference for our military families. This past year, however, has been an extraordinary year for Mission.
Our biggest accomplishment has been the installation of a PVD system that interfaces with an MRI machine to the Pediatric MRI units at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, each valued at $50,000. This system has transformed a scary procedure into one that can include a movie, significantly decreasing the need for sedation and repeat procedures. |
With the generosity of Geico Insurance, the pediatric unit at Walter Reed is installing a system to accommodate ongoing art exhibits, giving children a platform to display their art. The enclosed information from a Walter Reed Art Therapist shows how this project was the difference between a child feeling defeated or feeling like she could conquer anything…….even cancer.
We have not gone unnoticed. This year, Mission:M4 was honored to receive the prestigious Good Neighbor Award from the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors and the Virginia Association of Realtors. Additionally, Mission:M4 received Honorable Mention with the National Association of Realtors for its contributions to the military community. This year, NAR honored 10 agents out of 1.3 million agents nationally. To have been among the top ten is very humbling.
Our current project needs your help. We are attempting to build a family room in the Pediatric Critical Care Unit at Walter Reed with plans to have a lounge and refreshment area, large TV, fun art on the walls and a desk area with computers, printer and scanner allowing a parent to stay in touch with family and work and provide for a respite from the hospital room.
Please consider making a donation to help complete the family room. Donations can be mailed to the Walter Reed Society/Box 303, 8901 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, Maryland 20889, marked for Mission:M4 or on Mission:M4’s website. Donations are fully tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. I hope you will take time to look at our website and read more about our achievements. Together, we have accomplished so much.
In closing, it is my sincere hope that 2021 will be filled with health, happiness and peace for us all. God Bless the United States of America.

At a very moving ceremony, MissionM:4 celebrated the first installation of the system at a Ribbon Cutting on November 8th at Walter Reed, attended by military and government dignitaries and the dedicated doctors and staff of Walter Reed. However, the most important dignitaries to attend were the Lewis family. Thomas Lewis, a 7 year old son of an active soldier, is Mission’s poster boy and given the honor of handing the scissor to the ribbon cutters. I cannot tell you how much it meant to me to get an email from Thomas’ mom, the morning after the ceremony, telling me that Thomas was actually EXCITED about his next MRI. Thomas is one of those children that will need regular MRI’s for the rest of his life.
We are on our way with one system already installed at Walter Reed. As a result of your generous donations and a major gift of $25,000 from Geico Insurance, we anticipate heading for Hawaii with our second system. At $50,000 a system, your continued support is essential to purchase the remaining eight systems to achieve our goal.
Through our journey, there are several people whom, without their help and support, our ribbon cutting would never have become a reality. Dr. Philip Rogers, specializing in Pediatric Gastroenterology at Walter Reed kept us focused on the end result. Knowing me, you understand that patience is not one of my greatest virtues… a quality that has served my clients well. Let’s get the job done and move on to the next. That mantra, however, is hardly a plus in government systems. :) I was so fortunate to have my own personal military adviser to help me work through to our goal.

Without the help, support, dedication of Senator and Mrs. Pat Roberts, I would have given up many times. “Senator, to you, this was just another project for a dedicated marine. In true marine fashion, you supported Mission’s every move to assure success”.
Lastly, I thank every member, past and present for your service to our country, for your bravery, commitment and dedication. You represent the true meaning of America and I salute you! You are all every day American heroes.
