MISSION:M4
We HAVE made a difference for the
Critically Ill Children of the Military

Picture
It’s hard to believe that Mission:M4 has been in existence since 2015.  We are proud of what we have accomplished with the aide and guidance of our partner, The Walter Reed Society but realize there is so much more we can do. Our military families continue to march on, sacrificing so much on our behalf. Each year that we grow, I realize that we have only made a dent in the overall difference we can make.  Each year, I realize more and more, the debt we owe our military families.  They keep your family and mine safe…..but not without great sacrifices. Because of your support, Mission:M4 continues to make a major difference for our military families. The year 2022, however, has been another extraordinary year for Mission.
With the help of several other groups, the pediatric unit at Walter Reed has been transformed into an environment that would make any child smile.  Full size jungle animals cover the walls of all public areas.  They are truly amazing.  We have finally finished the family lounge for the unit, as well. This lounge will provide an environment of peace and comfort for the families of the children in the critical care unit as well as the general unit.

Our efforts and determination to continue to place PVD systems that interface with MRI machines in Pediatric MRI units around the country continues.  This system, at a cost of $50,000, transforms a scary procedure into one that can include a movie.  This significantly decreases the need for sedation and repeat procedures.  Walter Reed is presently waiting for a new and updated machine that will offer even greater advantages for the children.

Mission:M4 has been fortunate to have the support of Geico Insurance in many of their projects. Their generosity has helped to install a system to accommodate ongoing art exhibits, giving children a platform to display their art.

Mission:M4 has not gone unnoticed. It has been honored to receive the prestigious Good Neighbor Award from the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors and the Virginia Association of Realtors. Additionally, Mission:M4 received Honorable Mention with the National Association of Realtors for its contributions to the military community. This year, NAR honored 10 agents out of 1.3 million agents nationally. To have been among the top ten is very humbling.

Please consider donating to help us in further our mission.  We have a wonderful opportunity to make an enormous difference, for the critically ill children of the families who have sacrificed and continue to sacrifice so much to keep us safe.   These families walk an unfamiliar path, with fear and untold courage, and often without the support of their parents by their side who have been deployed to serve our country.

Donations can be mailed to the Walter Reed Society/Box 303, 8901 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, Maryland 20889, marked for Mission:M4  on  Mission:M4’s website. Your donation will be fully tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. I hope you will take time to look at our website and read more about our achievements in further detail. Together, we have accomplished so much. Together we can do so much more.

Our current project really needs your help. We are attempting to build a family room in the Pediatric Critical Care Unit at Walter Reed. When families bring their very ill children to the hospital, they do not leave their room for days. There are few places to be other than to sit in a chair in their child’s room….whether the child is in the room or out for tests. A sun filled family room is planned to have a lounge area, refreshment area, large TV, fun art on the walls and a desk area with computers, printer and scanner allowing a parent to stay in touch with family and work. Please help us make this happen with a donation through our website: www.Missionm4.org

MISSION:M4 Achievements

  1. The playroom in the children’s unit at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center was totally renovated by the hospital. As a result of Mission:M4’s work with Hasbro, the new play-room was filled with new toys!

  2. Hasbro Toys continues to send “pallets” of toys to the children’s unit at Walter Reed Na-tional Military Medical Center. Imagine a very sick child having tons of toys to pick from when they need a smile? The kids at WRNMMC do!

  3. Working in coordination with America Adopt-A-Soldier, all patient rooms now have X-Boxes to help the children pass difficult times. They can interact with their families with a smile instead of a tear.

  4. The infusion center also has X-Boxes. Can you imagine a child getting an infusion, for ex-tended hours, and not even having a TV to watch? Now, as soon a child enters the unit, they ask for the remote.

  5. The Sedation Unit now has DVD players to divert a child’s mind when waiting for a proce-dure. It used to be scary to wait for everyone to get things ready, but now their attention is divert-ed by music, a story or other available DVD options.
